1748Maria Theresa created the Mercantile Province including Rijeka.
1779River "Corpus separatum" directly annexed to Hungary.
1797French in Rijeka. Alternation under France or Austria depending on the events of war, naval blockade.
1809Austria attacks Napoleon and loses, Napoleon goes to the "Illyrian Provinces" (Carniola, Littoral, Istria, Croatia, Dalmatia and Ragusa).
1813Fiume returns to Austria.
1822Francis I returns Rijeka to Hungary.
1848Hungary against Austria and the Croats (Jelačic) Rijeka under the Croats.
1860Franz Joseph returns Rijeka to Hungary, but "under Croatia": protest by the Council of Ten.
1867Rijeka returns directly below Hungary.
1890Irredentism versus Magyarization.
1898dissolution of the City Council (for 3 years the city will remain without it).
